Jerk Festival To Celebrate Jamaica’s 50 and Grace’s 90

ジャマイカが今年で独立50周年を迎えます。その一環としてこの夏には各地でイベントが開催されます。

ジャマイカ最大の食品メーカー、グレース・フーズがスポンサーについた「グレース・ジャマイカン・ジャーク・フェスティヴァル」は昨年、念願のニューヨーク進出を果たしました。今年で90周年を迎えるグレース・フーズ、ジャマイカ独立50周年記念にあやかってニューヨークでも7月22日（日）に大々的にイベントを繰り広げることになりました。その告知がジャマイカの領事館にて催されました。

ラム・パンチやジャーク・チキン、ビーフ・パティなどが用意されたパーティー会場には領事館という固いイメージとはほど遠いファンキーなドレッド・ヘアーの人たちが集い、ゆる〜い感じ。さすがジャマイカ！カクテルのあと会議室に移動、主催者のグレース・フーヅ代表やイベント・オーガナイザーの挨拶、ジャマイカ大使、領事などが「グレース・ジャマイカン・ジャーク・フェスティヴァルNY」の成功を誓いました。

主催者のエディ・エドワーズによると、「ジャマイカン・ジャーク・フェスティヴァル」は26年前、マイアミを拠点に始めたフード・フェスティヴァルなのだそうです。ジャマイカの名物、ピリ辛のジャーク・チキンが主役の家族イベントとして大成功を収め、ジャーク・チキンのほか、ジャーク・フィッシュ、ジャーク・シュリンプなど「ジャーク」自慢のシェフたちの作品を味わうお祭りとして定着しました。今回はグレース・フーズがスポンサーについて以来11回目を迎えます。

ジャマイカの人たちが集まれば必ず音楽が始まってしまいます。レゲエ、ソカ、アフロビートなどミュージシャンたちのパフォーマンスはお祭りに欠かせません。毎年、メイン・ステージでは有名アーティストによるライヴが行われています。

今年はジャマイカ独立50周年ということで参加者1万人以上を見込んでいるそうです。場所はニューヨークのロイ・ウィルキンソン・パーク(Map)にて開催されます。お昼12時より夜8時まで、カリビアン・フードを食べてアイランド気分にひたる絶好のチャンス。ライヴはVPレコーズ所属の Tarrus Riley です。比較的若いレゲエ・アーティストですが、トラディッショナル・ルーツ・レゲエをしっかり踏襲している素晴らしいシンガーです。ボブ・マーリー、デニス・ブラウン、ベレス・ハモンド。グレゴリー・アイザックスが好きな人はタラス・ライリーに惚れ込んでしまうことマチガイなしです。

Jamaican Jerk Festival 2012

This year, the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival will celebrate both the anniversaries of Jamaica’s 50th year of independence and Grace Foods 90th. Festival organizers are promising patrons lots of excitement, in a series of promotions leading up to the event. The one-day family-friendly food festival is scheduled for Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Roy Wilkins Park, Queens, New York.

Title sponsor, Grace Foods, the leading Caribbean food manufacturer and distributor, will again add spice with an exciting series of in-store promotions at several leading retails outlets beginning in May right up to festival day.

The entertainment on the Main Stage will feature singing sensation Tarrus Riley, Fab 5 Band among others as well as a Gospel segment featuring local gospel groups.

The Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival is presented in association with Digicel and VP Records, the festival is sponsored by Western Union, The Jamaica Tourist Board, Jet Blue Airways, Bigga, Irie Jam Media, and VitaMalt. The event is produced by VP Records & Jamaican Jerk Festival USA, Inc.
