ジャマイカン・ジャーク・フェスティヴァルに行ってきました。
今年はジャマイカ独立５０周年ということもあり、正確な数字はまだ発表されていませんがたくさんの人たちが集まって大盛況でした。ロイ・ウィルキンス公園はジャーク・チキンを焼く煙が立ちこめ、人気のあるヴェンダーの前は長蛇の列……..。チキンだけだと10ドル、エスコヴィッチ・フィッシュのフライは12ドル、ライス＆ビーンズのコンボは15ドル、焼きトウモロコシ1本5ドル……..と決して安いわけではないのに飛ぶように売れていました。
メイン・ステージでは爆音でレゲエ・アーティストがパフォーマンスをしていましたが、各ブースでもCDをガンガンかけたり、音楽があちこちから聴こえてきます。ジャマイカ人の他にもガイアナやバルバドス、いろいろな島の人たちがジャーク・フェスティヴァルを楽しんでいました。

The second annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, New York
was a huge success attended by a large crowd enjoying the best of Jamaican jerk cuisine, music, and culture.
Sunday’s day-long, family friendly festival highlighted the spicy jerk seasonings from a variety of NYC-based
eateries, including Miss Lily’s and Spur Tree. Additional activities include celebrity chef cooking demonstrations
and a Kidz Zone featuring magicians and amusement park rides.
Entertainment on The Cultural Stage featured dance, drumming, storytelling, and of course reggae and soca music.
Headliner Tarrus Riley rocked the crowd along with several Jamaican artists. It was a joyous affair celebrating
Jamaica’s 50th anniversary in style!

今週日曜日 ジャマイカン・ジャーク祭り！！
以前にもお知らせしましたが、いよいよジャマイカン・ジャーク・フェスティヴァルが開催されます！
今週の日曜日（7/22）、クィーンズのジャマイカ地区にあるロイ・ウィルキンソン公園でお昼の12時から夜8時まで、ジャマイカ料理を食べながらレゲエを聴いてファミリーで楽しめる野外イベント、「ジャーク・フェスティヴァル」を体験しませんか。
今年はジャマイカの独立50周年にあたります。昨年もビッグなイベントになったそうですが、今年はさらに大勢のアイランドの人たちがロイ・ウィルキンソン公園に大集合しそうな気配。主催がジャマイカで最大の食品メーカー、グレース・フードとあって、ジャーク・チキン、ジャーク・ポークなどお肉や魚介類もすべてジャークづくし、お料理ショーなども用意されていてお腹いっぱいになりそうです。
もちろん、音楽、ダンスも盛りだくさんです。VPレコーズが誇るレゲエ・アーティスト、 正統派ルーツのアーティストで実力も確かなタラス・ライリー（Tarrus Riley）がメイン・ステージでパフォーマンスを披露してくれます。

場所は地下鉄のE トレインに乗って Jamaica Center で下車、Archer Av – Parsons Bl まで徒歩1分、そこからバス Q85 に乗ってMerrick Blvd. 沿いをずっと走って Baisley Bl にて下車。マンハッタンのミッドタウンから約1時間ちょっとで到着します。他にも車や、L.I.R.R. (Long Island Rail Road) 経由など行き方はありますがおのおのでお調べ下さい。（注：いずれにしてもわりと遠いです。）
