「12年間の奴隷生活（正式日本タイトルは「それでも夜は明ける」）」という映画が今アメリカで公開中、話題になっています。脚本は、実際に奴隷を体験した黒人、ソロモン・ノーサップの自伝「12 Years A Slave 」に基づいています。
時は1841年、アメリカ北部の自由人だった33歳の黒人、ヴァイオリニストのソロモン・ノーサップは白人に騙されて南部に奴隷として売られてしまいます。

12 Years a Slave is a 2013 British-American historical drama film, an adaptation of the 1853 autobiography Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup, a free black man who was kidnapped in Washington, D.C. in 1841 and sold into slavery. He worked on plantations in the state of Louisiana for 12 years before his release.
In 1841 Solomon Northup is a free black man living with his wife and two children in Saratoga Springs, New York. He makes his living playing the violin. One day, he is lured into a lucrative touring gig by a pair of white men. After a night out in Washington D.C. with the two men, Northup awakens to find himself chained to the floor. In shock of what has happened, Northup realizes he has been drugged and sold into slavery.
Transported by ship to New Orleans, Northup and other enslaved blacks contract smallpox and some die. In transit, Northup implores a sympathetic sailor to send a letter to his family. The letter arrives safely, but, lacking knowledge of his final destination, Northup’s family is unable to effect his rescue.
Northup’s first owner is William Ford, a cotton planter on a bayou of the Red River, and he subsequently has several other owners during his twelve-year bondage. At times, his carpentry and other skills mean he is treated relatively well, but he also suffers extreme cruelty. On two occasions, he is attacked by a man who is to become his owner, John Tibeats, and finds himself unable to resist retaliating, for which he suffers great reprisals. Later he is sold to Edwin Epps, a notoriously cruel planter, who gives Northup the role of driver, requiring him to oversee the work of fellow slaves and punish them for undesirable behavior.
Never, in almost 12 years, does he reveal his true history to a single slave or owner. Finally he confides his story in Samuel Bass, a white carpenter from Canada. Bass sends a letter to Northup’s wife, who calls on Henry Northup, a white attorney whose family once held and then freed Solomon Northup’s father. Henry Northup contacts New York state officials and the governor appoints him as an agent to travel to Louisiana and free Solomon Northup. He succeeds, and Solomon Northup leaves the plantation. After instigating a court case against the men who sold him into slavery, Northup is reunited with his family in New York.

今週の木曜日はハロウィーンです。アメリカでは大人も子供も楽しみの行事のひとつ。みなさん、様々なコスチュームで楽しんでいます。ドラキュラやお化けとか怖い系から、綺麗な妖精やセクシーなコスプレ系の女子もいるし、おもわず吹き出してしまうようなオカシな変装など、なんでもアリです。私はHootersのウエイトレスさんの格好とか考えましたが、あれはナイスバディじゃないと着れないのでよしときます！う〜ん、何になろうかな、思案中です。
Michael Jacksonのスリラーのビデオは音楽面だけでなく、迫力の満点のダンス、振り付け、ファッション、どれをとっても素晴らしく、まるでショート・ムービーのよう。今見てもすごくカッコいい！あんなのもう誰も作れないんじゃないかなぁ…。マイケルは偉大です。
ハロウィン・パーティーで絶対スリラー聞かなきゃ始まらないでしょ！

We all love Halloween. People dressed up like scary vampires or spooky creatures and women in sexy fairy costumes. Sometimes you see some ridiculous outrageous costumes that make you laugh! I wanted to dress like a Hooters waitress but only nice body girls can wear that uniform……. I better not. What should I wear……..?
Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” is the definitive song for Halloween. It’s a novelty song, a horror film, a video defining a generation. Great dance performance too. Nobody can ever make a video like great Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Again.
2 Do What U Want – Lady Gaga feat. R. Kelly
最近 R. Kelly 全然出てこないけど、どうしてるのかなぁ..なんてちょうど考えていたところでした。なんとLady Gagaとのコラボ。Gaga のボーカルがなかなかR&B 、ソウルな曲。 R. Kelly でR&B度がさらにアップ、いい曲だなぁと何回も聴いてしまいました。プロデュースは「Turn Down For What」でブレイク中のDJ Snake。
Where is R. Kelly? There he is collaborating with Lady Gaga’s second single from “ARTPOP.” It seems musically awkward collaboration but surprisingly Gaga gives a nice R&B/Soul flavor and Mr. Kelly’s smooth R&B vocals make it a great song. Produced by the hottest producer/DJ Snake known for his big hit “Turn Down For What.”

夏頃から盛り上がってる曲ですが、まだ衰え知らず。みんなが大好きなA$AP、これかけると特に酔っ払ったお兄さん達が、大変喜んでくれますっ。このビートもイントロからして 迫力満点 、大箱で聞きたい曲です。

ALIVE! 今この瞬間を生きる悦び
出演者全員が55歳以上というユニークなミュージカルが「 ALIVE!」。
「Mama I Want To Sing」で世界的に知られるママ・ファウンデーションが立ち上げた新作です。
一見、ハーレムのどこにでもいそうなオジさん、オバさんたちですが、半世紀以上生きていた彼らにはそれぞれ波瀾万丈の人生があります。このミュージカルのストーリーは出演者たちの実体験に基づいています。
若気の至りでドラッグにはまり、40年という長い刑を宣告され、獄中で女囚と結婚、刑期を終えてシャバに戻ってきたシオ・ハリス。「必ず帰ってくる。もういちど君を抱きしめたい……..。」という気持ち込め、「アンチェインド・メロディー」を歌い上げます。哀愁にみちた美しいメロディーの名曲です。
実はこの曲、1955年に公開された映画、「Unchained」のテーマ曲として作られました。歌詞の内容もシオの人生そのもの…….。主人公は服役中の男で、早く妻と子供に会いに帰りたい、脱走してしまおうか、それともきちんとお務めを果たすべきか悩みます。アンチェインドというのは、文字通り、鎖を解かれた、鎖に繋がれた状態から解放されたという意味です。
「ひとりぼっちで過ごす長い年月、君のぬくもりが愛おしい……。必ず君のもとに帰るから、プリーズ・ウェイト・フォー・ミー……..」、40年間の思いを込めてシオ・ハリスが歌う「アンチェインド・メロディー」は実話だけに聞く人たちの心に訴えかけます。この曲はライチャス・ブラザースのバージョンが有名で、1990年のハリウッド映画、「ゴースト」のシーンでも使われリバイバル・ヒットしたので覚えている人もいるかと思います。
曲の最後に獄中結婚した奥さんのフィリス・ハリスが登場、ふたりで抱き合い喜びをかみしめます。40年経った今、シオは64歳、フィリスは61歳、諦めかけていた人生、叶わぬはずの夢が大きく花開き、生きる意欲が再び湧き上がります。まさに「アライヴ！」です。ハリス夫婦の感動が観客に伝わってきます。
アル中で50歳まで文盲だったマシュー・ブラウン、50歳になってから学校に通い読み書きを習い、エッセイ・コンテストにみごと優勝……。たった一人の息子を失ったデボラ・ミンガム…….。生後2週間で母親に捨てられ孤児となり、いちども会うこともなく50数年生きてきたマシュー・バーク……….。さまざまな闘いを乗り越えてきたブラック・コミュニティの人たちの魂の叫びが舞台で炸裂します。
ひとりひとりの人生を歌で綴ったハーレム・ミュージカル。ゴスペルあり、モータウンあり、ジャズあり、様々な音楽のスタイルを散りばめた人間ドラマが「アライヴ」です。生きているからこそこうして今を謳歌することができる……..。今この瞬間を生きる悦びを歌で表現したドキュメンタリー・タッチのミュージカルです。
出演者たちはいわゆる「しろうと」ですが、そのヴォーカル・パフォーマンスはプロに決してひけをとりません。圧巻です。希望と勇気を与えてくれるリアルなミュージカル、「アライヴ！」をぜひ体験して下さい。
