Erykah Badu a.k.a. DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown

Erykah Badu a.k.a. Analog Girl in a Digital World (okay, player?)

Erykah Badu a.k.a. DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown

B-girl For Life

You probably know Erykah Badu is a goddess of neo-soul and hip-hop music. But did you know she is a DJ as well? She has got more than just singing skills but also been performing live s a deejay.

Erykah Badu also known as DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown is honored as part of DJ software giant Serato Icon Artist Series.

Her career as a DJ she describes as a central role in today’s music world “Right now we’re in 2012 AD, where the DJ is now the star.”

Erykah Badu has been on the journey as a DJ, one she embarked on a long time ago through her love of hip-hop music and it’s culture.

“I’m in love with hip-hop. I’m a b-girl, into breakdancing, graffiti. Hip-hop is the creation of an instrument, two turntables and a mixer. Hip-hop is the inflections in the voice. I love the evolution that’s happening. I love Rick Ross. I love Drake. I love Lil’ Wayne. I love Nicki Minaj.”

“I expanded and explored more and more as I became a b-girl, because the world knows DJing and rapping is something you do, but the great KRS-1 said ‘Hip Hop is something you live’. Once it’s in you, it’s in you.”

The future looks bright for Erykah Badu and Loretta brown, two artists working together to weave live performance and DJing into a rich textured experience for people around the world to enjoy.
