An Evening With Chaka Khan

Chaka Khan - The Kings Theather

Formerly Loew’s Kings Theatre, The Kings Theatre is a historical theater in Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Opened in 1929 and closed in 1977, the theater sat empty for decades until a complete renovation was initiated in 2010. The theater reopened to the public on January 23, 2015. Diana Ross was the featured artist for the gala reopening performance on February 3, 2015.

On February 19, 2016, almost one year later, the Kings Theater featured the legendary Chaka Khan.

Chaka Khan Concert Review

The Chicago-native Diva came on stage wearing a sexy burgundy-colored tunic with a wide black belt around her waist and black thigh-high boots over black tight pants.

The Queen of Funk heated up the theater packed with the rather mature audience with a set that spanned her greatest hits. She started off the soul/disco hit by Rufus and Chaka,  “Do You Love What You Feel,” one of her last hits before fully going solo.

Oh, boy did she sing her heart out! One thing I love about her show is that it’s no gimmick,  no props, no dancers, just her great voice.

Ms. Chaka Khan once mentioned that she didn’t like the Prince produced song “I Feel For You,” as it features Grandmaster Melle Mel on the classic Ch-ch-ch-chaka-chaka-chaka Khan rap which annoys her. But she sang just to touch on material that her more loyal fans would recognize.

Before she finishes the half set of her performance she said to the audience, “Something broke and I have to fix it,” then went off-stage. Puzzled three female backup singers and the band stayed behind to give the crowd some jazzy intermission instrumentals.

After for a while Ms. Khan finally came back on stage with black shiny outfit and the same black pants but no boots. She is getting laidback and went on singing her beautiful rendition of “Papillon (a.k.a. Hot Butterfly).”

“This was composed first as an instrumental. What’s his name……., oh yeah, David Foster wrote the lyrics, “ she introduced her next song then started to sing “Through The Fire.”

The song was sampled by Kanye West and “Through The Wire” became his breakthrough debut single.

The performance also includes jazzy “Funny Valentine,” the 1995 hit from the “Waiting to Exhale” soundtrack, the sultry 1975 number one R&B hit “Sweet Thing,” and the 1974-hit written by Stevie Wonder “Tell Me Something Good,” followed by the LGBT anthem “I’m Every Woman.” Chaka Khan was supposed to end the night’s performance with her 1983 number 1 R&B chart signature hit “Ain’t Nobody” but due to her costume malfunction the show was cut in short. She walked off the stage abruptly.

2 black guys behind my seat started shouting, “You didn’t sing ‘Ain’t Nobody’, ‘Ain’t Nobody’,” then they started to sing off key. Not the great way to end the perfect night…..

It’s funky Brooklyn after all. Good Night!

Jay Z’s Tidal Streaming Service Has Split The Music Industry Apart ……?
When Jay Z launched Tidal at a star-studded event in March, it was with the aim of saving the music business: a vow to give artists a fair share of revenue than other streaming services such as Spotify. And he wasn’t alone, either. Kanye West, Beyonce, Usher, Calvin Harris, Deadmau5, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Coldplay, Rihanna, Daft Punk, Jack White and Arcade Fire all joined him for the bash in New York, each pledging to create a fairer system for musicians.

Since then, though, its found itself a target of constant criticism. Mumford And Sons, Lily Allen and Noel Gallagher have all questioned its purpose and doubted whether it will ever achieve its goals. People have claimed its a model that only favours mainstream acts – the ones least at threat by streaming in general – and that it’s little more than a vanity project.

“I would say that I have 99 problems but Jay Z is not one of them.”

The company said in an announcement that all ticket proceeds would support charities and that New World Foundation, which focuses on civil rights issues, would administer all funds, in association with Sankofa.org, a social justice nonprofit founded by Harry Belafonte. The event’s Ticketmaster page states that donations will benefit “nonprofit organizations dedicated to advancing positive community relations and effecting systemic change for the development and sustainability of just societies.”

Tickets will be available, for $74-$244.

  1. We In Da City (Remix) – Young Dro f/ T.I.

Young Dro gave us a new single by the name of “We In Da Cidy” back in February and now we get a remix that features T.I. which being played currently at the most of the clubs. The slow-tempo new dancefloor shaker with a twist of thuggish flavor gives a joy to both Henny drinking black brothers and Grey Goose drinking white brothers alike.

  1. Antidote – Travi$ Scott

Kanye のレーベルG.O.O.D Musicと、T.I.

A newcomer from Houston, Texas, Travi$ Scott signed to Kanye West’s GOOD Music as a producer and to T.I.’s Grand Hustle as an artist at the same time. Travi$ is one of the most anticipated rapper/producer right now. This one is a little more subdued than your average Scott record, featuring melodies that sound very Kanye like. With its catchy chorus this one’s getting a lot of radio play.

  1. Right Hand – Drake

This is the one of the newest Drake/Meek Mill beef related songs and the track is so deep I can’t get this song out of my head. I hope nothing bad will happen to Meek like 50 Cent and Ja Rule’s two-year-long beef costed Ja with no record playing at clubs back then. I guess this one is softer compare to 50 vs Ja. Wishing nobody gets hurt.
