今週の木曜日はハロウィーンです。アメリカでは大人も子供も楽しみの行事のひとつ。みなさん、様々なコスチュームで楽しんでいます。ドラキュラやお化けとか怖い系から、綺麗な妖精やセクシーなコスプレ系の女子もいるし、おもわず吹き出してしまうようなオカシな変装など、なんでもアリです。私はHootersのウエイトレスさんの格好とか考えましたが、あれはナイスバディじゃないと着れないのでよしときます！う〜ん、何になろうかな、思案中です。

Michael Jacksonのスリラーのビデオは音楽面だけでなく、迫力の満点のダンス、振り付け、ファッション、どれをとっても素晴らしく、まるでショート・ムービーのよう。今見てもすごくカッコいい！あんなのもう誰も作れないんじゃないかなぁ…。マイケルは偉大です。

ハロウィン・パーティーで絶対スリラー聞かなきゃ始まらないでしょ！

This Thursday is Halloween, everybody!

We all love Halloween. People dressed up like scary vampires or spooky creatures and women in sexy fairy costumes. Sometimes you see some ridiculous outrageous costumes that make you laugh! I wanted to dress like a Hooters waitress but only nice body girls can wear that uniform……. I better not. What should I wear……..?

Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” is the definitive song for Halloween. It’s a novelty song, a horror film, a video defining a generation. Great dance performance too. Nobody can ever make a video like great Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Again.

最近 R. Kelly 全然出てこないけど、どうしてるのかなぁ..なんてちょうど考えていたところでした。なんとLady Gagaとのコラボ。Gaga のボーカルがなかなかR&B 、ソウルな曲。 R. Kelly でR&B度がさらにアップ、いい曲だなぁと何回も聴いてしまいました。プロデュースは「Turn Down For What」でブレイク中のDJ Snake。

Where is R. Kelly? There he is collaborating with Lady Gaga’s second single from “ARTPOP.” It seems musically awkward collaboration but surprisingly Gaga gives a nice R&B/Soul flavor and Mr. Kelly’s smooth R&B vocals make it a great song. Produced by the hottest producer/DJ Snake known for his big hit “Turn Down For What.”

3 Work – S$AP Ferg

夏頃から盛り上がってる曲ですが、まだ衰え知らず。みんなが大好きなA$AP、これかけると特に酔っ払ったお兄さん達が、大変喜んでくれますっ。このビートもイントロからして迫力満点、大箱で聞きたい曲です。

“Work” by A$AP Ferg is the party banger played heavily in this summer and never shows any sign of slowing down. Still on top of the game A$AP crew makes brothers under influence go crazy!

Yes, We are “ALIVE!”

The Mama Foundation for the Arts presents ALIVE!, an original musical featuring a full company of performers who are age 55 and over.

“Real people, telling real stories!” Conceived and written by Vy Higginsen and her husband Ken Wydro (the creators of Mama, I Want To Sing), and directed by Mr. Wydro, ALIVE! is currently performing in repertory on Saturday afternoons at The Dempsey Theater in Harlem (127 W. 127 St.).

The cast of ALIVE! is comprised of everyday, “ordinary” citizens from all walks of life; people with amazing talent, who never realized their desire to perform live. Each cast member now has the opportunity to take center stage, proving that it’s never too late to live a dream.

One of the highlights of the show is when Theo Harris confessed that he was associated with people like pimps, drug-dealers and gangsters and became a drug addict. He ended up serving 40 years in prison and met a woman there and married. The song Theo performed was “Unchained Melody” the theme song for 1955’s film titled “Unchained,” a story of a convict in a medium-security prison who is torn between his need to finish his sentence and get back to his wife and family, and his desire to escape the confines of prison.

♪♪Oh my love my darling/I’ve hungered for your touch…….I’ll be coming home wait for me……..♪ At the end of his song he reunited with his wife in real life, Phyllis Harris and hugged each other……..Alive!

ALIVE! features a unique blend of gospel, jazz, R&B and pop music – songs that served as a soundtrack for this generation. Through the music and through authentic stories and testimonies, the ALIVE! cast tell how it used to be, and how life could be going forward . . . at any age. They are ALIVE! . . . and kickin.’

The cast of ALIVE! features Num H.S. Amun’Tehu, Deborah Bingham, Donna Love Brown, Matthew Brown, Matthew Burke, Robin Campos, Robin Crudup, Gladys DeJesus Mitchell, Darlene Eklou, Phyllis Harris, Theo Harris, Glo Ria Jones, Susie Jones, Sahron Patrick, Roberta Ross, Ricardo Vega, Renee Walker, Pamela White, and Hugh Wright.

ALIVE! has music direction by Greg Kelly and musical staging/choreography by Elijah Ahmad Lewis.

ALIVE! is performed at The Dempsey Theater in repertory along with other Mama Foundation for the Arts shows: WE ARE! A World Premiere musical created by Ms. Higginsen and Mr. Wydro.

ウィークエンド、北米ツアーNY2日公演！

The Weeknd Live at Radio City Music Hall, NYC

9月10日にリリースしたメジャー・デビュー・アルバム、「キッス・ランド」のプロモ・ツアー中のウィークエンド（本名エィベル・テスファイ）、NYで2日間の公演をしました。2日目の10月8日、レコード会社の好意でチケットを入手、ライヴに定評のあるウィークエンド・ショーを観ることができたのレポートいたします。

北米ツアーのなかでもニューヨークは重要な拠点、ウィークエンド本人にとっても思い入れのある街なのだそう。

「ハウ・ユー・フィーリング、ニューヨーク！俺、ウィークエンドのライヴに来てくれてありがとう。21年間、トロントから出たことなくて、2年前最初に来たのがここニューヨークなんだ。バワリー・ボールルーム、ウィリアムズバーグで初めてコンサートをやって以来、こうしてまたニューヨークで、しかもラジオ・シティー・ミュージック・ホールでライヴをさせてもらえることができたのはみなさん、オーディエンスのお陰です。本当にありがとう！」と素直に喜びを表すあたり、マスコミで報道されていたほど変人ではないようです。

ニッポンびいきのウィークエンド

ステージ上にいくつも設置されているスクリーンに渋谷の街のネオンが写し出されます。「オトナのビデオ」「入れ墨」「赤い熊猫」「居酒屋」「愛のホテル」など日本語の看板が……..。日本のマンガ・ブームやカニエ・ウエストのニッポンびいきのお陰でアメリカでも日本的なビジュアルが受けているようです。私たちニッポン人からすると何だか不思議な気がします。

舞台のスクリーンで漢字やカタカナのグラフィック・イメージがチカチカ展開されるなか、ウィークエンドの音楽がシンクロしていきます。新しいアルバムからの曲、「Love In The Sky」「Belong To The World」を披露。ヴォーカルは安定していてCDで聞くのと変りません。バンドはドラム、ギター、キーボードの3人のみ。DJもダンサーもナシ、シンプルなセットです。

「Professional」では、ステージ上のスクリーンに「玄人」の文字が…….。スタッフに日本人がいるのでしょうか、かなりニッポンが強調されています。

観客は白人が圧倒的、20代のカップル、女性同士のグループが目立ちました。「High For This」といった曲にも表れていますが、「みんなでハイになろう」というメッセージを全世界に発信しているウィークエンドの思いが伝わったのか、入り口での厳しいセキュリティ・チェックにもかかわらずマリファナの匂いが会場いっぱい立ちこめていました。

キッス・ランド

ウィークエンドが「Kiss Land」を歌い始めると、スクリーンの文字が映像に変ります。ふたりの日本人女性がなにやら絡み合っている姿が写し出されます。レズビアン・シーンを表現することで「キッス・ランド」という屈折した愛を描きたかったのでしょうか。

ウィークエンドの音楽はオルタナティヴR＆Bというそうです。ネオ・ソウルのディアンジェロやマックスウェルを想像していたらだいぶ肩すかしをくらいました。R＆Bというよりはアフロ・パンクのほうが近いのでは……..という印象を受けました。「マイケル・ジャクソン再来」というのちょっと……..。

地元トロントの仲間、ドレイクをフィーチャーしたヒップホップ賛歌、「Live For」を歌い始めるウィークエンドに歓声があがります。親友のはずのドレイクはとうとう姿をみせずじまい、ウィークエンドのワンマン・ショーが続きます。その埋め合わせのつもりなのか、「Gifted」のパフォーマンスにフレンチ・モンタナが登場。ヒップホップ・ファンはあまりいなかったのか、さほど盛り上がらず……….。ライヴの最後はアルバムからの曲、「Wanderlust」で締めくくります。パフォーマンスは約１時間半ほど。ウィークエンドの繰り広げるダークで退廃的な世界、叫びまくるファンの女の子たち、異質なものが同じ空間をシェアしている、そんな感じのウィークエンド・コンサートでした。

2 Survival – Eminem

新しいアルバムが待ち遠しいエミネム。 Rick Rubinプロデュースの“Berzerk” に似たロック・ティスト。リズ・ロドリゲスのコーラスが効いたかっこいい曲。

I can’t wait for his new album. “Survival” is a rock-inspired song like the Rick Rubin-produced “Berzerk,” the first single off his forthcoming studio album. I love vocals by Liz Rodrigues on the track, too.
