Fabolous-Meek-Mill
1             Foreigners – Fabolous feat. Meek Mill & Mike Davis

AUDIO

(Eric B & Rakim のPaid In Full、Public Enemyの”Can’t Truss It”にも使われてた あのOfra Hazaの曲) それに続くビートはFat Joe のMy Lifestyleをそのまま(厳密にはStatic Timeという曲ですが)使ってしまっています。

Opening up with Israeli musician Ofra Haza’s powerful “Im Nin Alu,”(also sampled by Eric B & Rakim’s “Paid In Full” and Public Enemy’s Can’t Truss It”)  “Foreigners” sifts into the samples of Fat Joe’s “My Lifestyle” (the original was called “Static Time.”) It has a strong impact at the beginning but I don’t think this flows. Using Auto-tune for the entire track seems to have ruined the effect as well

People request a lot of Meek Mills songs at Province Club in Atlantic City where I dj every weekend as he is from Philadelphia and AC is not far from his hometown.

2.         1UP – Just Blaze

just-blaze-misto-pizzi-1up

AUDIO

Just Blaze loves TV game and he samples Super Mario and turned into trap song. He used to make these signature songs with game sound back in the days. Nice.

Whoever wants to meet Just, come to my Tuesday party, Toca Tuesdays at Sutra in East Village!!

3.         Boss Ass Bitch – PTAF feat. Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj

AUDIO

「Bitch, bitch……..」

PTAF (Pretty Taking All Fades) is a low key black female rap trio until featuring Nicki Minaj for their remix version. Now they are famous! Thanks to Barbz. I play only Nicki’s hooks at the club. She repeats ‘I’m a boss ass bitch, bitch……….’ Now it’s ringing in my ear.

1             Public Service Announcement aka P.S.A. – Jay Z

The Black Album

The Black Album

When ”PSA” came out as one of singles for Jay-Z’s then final album, The Black Al bum in 2003 I was working at a record store in Downtown Brooklyn called Beat Street Records. We all at the store were blown away when we heard the record. I lost my mind!! Produced by one and only Just Blaze and featured one of the best rappers worldwide, Jay-Z……..what more can I say? It feels strange to celebrate this record after 10 years. After all, the song never went away. “PSA” remains a club-and-concert standard.

Speaking of Just Blaze, he shows up at 3 am at “Toca Tuesdays” every week, the party I dj with Tony Touch. Please come out and say hi to him.

2          Suavemente – Elvis Crespo

これはMerengue(メレンゲ)と呼ばれるラテンの部門の代表曲です。

“Suavemente” is a huge hit by Merengue singer, Elvis Crespo Diaz in 1998. Everybody knows this song even non-Latino people as it was a hit both in Latin America and in the U.S. This is my secret weapon to hype-up the party among Latin music lovers.

3          Scenario – A Tribe Called Quest

Q-Tip & Busta Rhymes

Q-Tip & Busta Rhymes

LONS (Leaders Of The New School バスタ・ライムズがいたグループ) のメンバーが入れ替わり立ち替わりテンポよくライムしていきます。

“Scenario” is the song by A Tribe Called Quest and LONS (Leaders of the New School). The song is commonly considered a breakout moment for LONS member Busta Rhymes. I get booed if I try to change record before I play the whole song. “Scenario” is the old school hip hop classic. This is one of few songs at Toca Tuesdays party that I play more than once and still people would go crazy.

June has raised the roof over the past seven years throughout Manhattan nightlife including The China Club, Copacabana, The Roxy, Avalon, Duvet, Exit, and Justin’s, as well as The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Time Warner Center, W Hotel, Time Hotel, and Empire Hotel. In Atlantic City she’s spun at Caesars Hotel & Casino and Trump Taj Mahal. Born in a small town near Kobe, Japan, June’s first foray into music was playing saxophone and creating beats which led to recording her own instrumental album. After working in a record shop in Osaka and teaching herself how to operate the 1’s and 2’s, her love of music inspired her to move to New York to pursue a career as an audio engineer. After graduating from the Institute of Audio Research, June became a studio intern but found the lack of professionalism among her colleagues disappointing. She returned to the retail music business working at one of New York’s most respected vinyl records shops, Beat Street Records in Brooklyn. Despite her limited English at the time, she amazed the customers with her comprehensive musical knowledge. Soon her regular clientele included every significant DJ in the New York City area and from around the world. She evolved into the store DJ, and her skills so impressed The Source “Hip-Hop Icon” DJ Scratch (Jay-Z, Run-DMC, Diddy, Busta Rhymes, EPMD) that he became her mentor and they’ve worked together for the past five years. “DJ June is one of the best club DJ’s in the world,” says Scratch. “I don’t put her in the female DJ category.” June is humbled to be associated with a turntable legend. “I had read about Scratch,” June says proudly. “I am so excited to be working with him.”

She continues to work closely with DJ Scratch including hosting her “Toyko Drift” show every Wednesday night on his Internet radio station, www.ScratchVision.com. “I am honored to have gone from Beat Street Records where I sold records to Scratch to becoming his protégé and a member of his team,” says June.” I am very proud to work with him and also to work with Tony Touch (Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Sean Paul) on “Toca Tuesdays” for the past four years at Sutra. He’s a legend and he’s my big brother. I am very lucky to work with them every week.” Touch is also honored to work with her, simply saying, “DJ June is the best!”

Another iconic admirer is DJ/music producer Just Blaze (Jay-Z, Eminem, Drake, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Usher). “DJ June is one of the brightest talents in the NY nightlife scene today,” states Blaze. “She always surprises me with her selections, which doesn’t happen too often these days. Rock on girl!”

June’s DJ career began in 2005 when a Beat Street client who was a promoter hired her for her first gig at a Miami club. She was an instant success, and another client hired her to spin at his 667 club in Brooklyn. What began the first week as an empty venue soon became jam packed in three weeks with an endless line around the block. Word of an incredible Japanese female DJ who could spin the best in house, electronica, R&B, hip-hop, reggae, dance, top 40, and old school classics rocking downtown Brooklyn brought out all the stars and promoters. She was immediately in high demand for the most prestigious events and the most popular clubs in New York.

Now June is helping others follow in her footsteps by hosting DJ seminars in Japanese in New York. “My goal is to continue to hone my skills and work all over the world like my colleagues DJ Scratch and Tony Touch.” June says. “I am proud to be a DJ who plays a wide variety of music. Many DJs are limited to playing only one style. I can play one format depending on the taste of the audience, or when I host my own club nights, you’ll hear everything-house, reggae, R&B. hip-hop, electronic, top 40, dance, etc.”

Last year June fulfilled a dream of returning to Japan to perform for the first time in her native country. Now with new upcoming projects including a compilation CD in Japan, DJ June is ready to reach her goal of becoming a true international DJ spinning across the globe!

2. Let Me Clear My Throat – DJ Kool

A song, DJ Kool rapped over the main loop taken from “The 900 Number” by DJ Mark the 45 King is still a Hip Hop classic even among young kids. This song came out almost 20 years ago and still banging!

3. Freaks – French Montana feat/Nicki Minaj

Montana connects with producer Rico Love, who samples both Chaka Demus & Pliers’ Murder She Wrote and Li’l Vicious and Doug E. Fresh’s Freaks. Montana’s nonchalant approach and accentuate guest Nicki Minaj’s ever-changing, eccentric flow.
