どこもかしこもトレンディになってしまって……。あ〜、30年前のハーレムにタイム・トリップしたい……..そんな方にぴったりなのが「パリス・ブルース」です。まるで時間が止まってしまったかのようなレトロな店内、アンティークなレジスターがバーのアクセントになっています。「あ、このレジスター、ちゃんと使っていますよ。」とバーテンのお姉さんがチャリーンとレジを鳴らして開けてみせてくれました。ドリンクを注文して10ドル札をだすとシングル（＄1紙幣）が何枚も戻ってきました。お値段も超レトロ！

店名の「パリス・ブルース」は1961年のシドニー・ポワチエ＆ポール・ニューマン共演の同名映画にちなんでいます。

昔のバーは音楽ナシ、お客さんがジューク・ボックスで好きなレコードをかける方式でした。ここ、パリス・ブルースでは最新式のジューク・ボックスを導入、しかもセレクションはアル・グリーンやマービン・ゲイなど古き良き時代のソウル・クラシックス曲が中心です。あくまでもレトロを貫いています。当然、お客さんもシニア系が目立ちます。けっしてクールで洗練されたバーではありませんが、「アブナい」ハーレムを体験できること請け合い。
週末はジャズ・バンドの生演奏が楽しめます。昔のハーレム・ルネッサンスを彷彿とさせます……..？

The Paris Blues bar at the corner of Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd./7th Avenue and 121st Street is truly old school since it has been around for 41 years.
On Saturday nights, the bar attracts a cast of characters that could have come from Cheers, Harlem-style. Customers don their godfather hats, snakeskin leather shoes, and 1940’s styled zoot suits.
PARIS BLUES is the namesake of the 1961 movie “Paris Blues,”
featuring Sidney Poitier, Diane Carroll and Paul Newman.
It’s a small venue. There are about 4 or 5 little tables to the left. Bar to the right, and the performance area was to the back. It hosts performances by jazz and other musicians and vocalists. From 20’s jazz to 90’s funk, the customers get down on the small dance floor.
