Celebrating its 41^st year, Harlem Week kicked off this Sunday, July 26^th with “A Great Day in Harlem” at Grant’s Tomb on 122^nd Street and Riverside Drive. This event was FREE features live music, including a special tribute to Ben E. King who died on April 30, 2015.

Ben E. King’s longtime friend and peer, a legendary R&B singer in his own right, Lloyd Price performed King’s 1961 big hit “Spanish Harlem.” But one time a great crooner seemed to be struggling to stay on the right note. Price disappeared after one song. Maybe he is getting old (82) but it was disappointing just the same.

Another great singer who equally chart topping acts in 1960’s Chuck Jackson came on stage and started singing his signature song “Any Day Now,” the crowd went crazy. Jackson, 78, 4 years junior to Price delivers dynamic, rousing version of his 1962’s great hit. He also dedicated “Stand By Me” to the late Ben E. King.

We all sang along with Jackson’ rendition of “Stand By Me.”

また今年もハーレムに夏がやってきました。恒例の「ハーレム・ウィーク」の幕開けです。初日は７月２６日（日）お昼１２時から夜８時半まで、家族みんなそろって丸一日たっぷり楽しめます。場所は122丁目と西のどんずまり、リバーサイド・パークに位置するU.S. Grant National Memorial Parkです。各イベントは公園内の所定の場所にて開催されます。スケジュールは以下の通り。

最新のテクノロジーを駆使したロボットや、便利グッズの展示、サイエンスを体験できる催しなど、お子様からお年寄りまで満足していただけること請け合い。お昼の12時から夕方6時までずっと開催中。

ベンE.キング追悼特別コンサート
先ごろ76歳で亡くなった（9.28.1938 – 4.30.2015）元ドリフターズのリード・シンガーで親日家で知られるR&BシンガーのベンEキングの歌手としての栄光のキャリアにスポットを当てたコンサートが行われます。1961年のベンEキングのソロ曲、「スパニッシュ・ハーレム」そして同年にリリースされた「スタンド・バイ・ミー」は今でもハーレムの人たちが大好きな曲です。昔の仲間で親しい友人だったベテラン・アーティスト、ロイド・プライスやチャック・ジャクソンが彼のヒット・ナンバーを歌ってくれることになっています。他にも、バンド・リーダーのポール・シェイファー、日本人キーボードプレイヤーのトーヤも出演予定。

B.B.キング追悼特別コンサート
後を追うようにこの５月に亡くなった（9.16.1925-5.14.2015）ブルースの王様、B.B.キングの功績を讃えたコンサートも同時に行われます。出演はキング・ソロモン・ヒックスとキース‘キャプテン’ギャンブル。

HARLEM WEEK began in 1974 as HARLEM DAY, a day of encouragement and fellowship in Harlem for New Yorkers. Given the huge success of the celebration, more days were added to showcase the community’s rich economic, political and cultural history.

Celebrating its 41st year in 2015, HARLEM WEEK will offer over 100 events from July 26^th through August 22^nd to over 2 million attendees from all over New York and the world. HARLEM WEEK celebrates the neighborhoods assets and unique flavor, promoting Harlem’s rich African, African-American, Caribbean, Hispanic and European history, culture, arts, religion, entertainment and sports.

懐かしい The Neptunes サウンド。ファンキーなビートでかっこいい！！PuffyとPharrellと言えば、バスタ・ライムズの”Pass The Courvoisier” や Diddyなんかヒットしましたね。今でも “Pass The Courvoisier” はパーティーには欠かせないチューンです。今回は Diddyじゃなく Puff Daddyとして登場、アルバムもうすぐ出るみたいです。ビジネスマンであり (今ではクラブで Puffyのウォッカ Cirocはもうお馴染み) まだ現役で音楽でも活躍中..本当凄いひとです。

The Production by the Neptunes on this track, courtesy of Pharrell, is undeniably fantastic. Busta Rhymes’“Pass The Courvoisier” featuring both Pharrell and Diddy is still a club anthem today. But it’s Puff Daddy, not Diddy. The rapper/entrepreneur is returning to his former rap moniker for his new album soon to be released. Puffy is known as a great business man as his Ciroc vodka is available at every club you go. What a guy!!

爽やかで夏にピッタリくるアップテンポのR&B。ラジオでもよくかかってます。クラブではテンポをもう少し早くした Danceリミックスで盛り上がってます。Jason Derulo なかなか根強い人気です。

This is the perfect love song for this summer. Up-tempo R&B song is on the radio all day long. I play a bit faster Dance Remix for the dance floor. Jason Derulo still has it.

Freak On The Week – Krept & Konan feat. Jeremih

レゲエのクラシック Playground Riddim (Beenie Man の Who Am I が有名) にのってノリが良くてキャッチーな Jeremihのコーラスが良いですね。曲聞いたことない人でもレゲエのビートなら聞いた事絶対あるので違和感なく踊ってます。これも夏ぽくて気持ちいい1曲。Krept & Konanって誰やねん？と思ったんですがイングランドのラップデュオみたいです。

UK rappers Krept & Konan spit on an old Jamaican beat Playground Riddim best remembered by Beenie Man’s “Who Am I”, this song features Jeremih’s catchy chorus. “Freak On The Week” definitely makes you wanna dance even though you don’t know the song ‘cause you can recognize the Raggae beat. Very summer-like nice tune!
