サンンクスギビング・デー、七面鳥を無料配給！
バスケット・ボール選手で構成する団体、NBPA (The National Basketball Players’ Association) が感謝祭の恒例「七面鳥無料配給」を今週月曜日に行いました。場所はハーレムの125丁目とレノックス・アベニュー、レストラン「レッド・ルースター」の前で長蛇の列を作って待っているハーレム地元民のために1000羽用意したターキーを配りました。毎年開催しているこのターキー祭り、貧しい地域の人たちのために全米各地で合計9000羽の七面鳥を用意し、うち1000羽はここ、ハーレムの人たちに配られました。

でも、なぜ黒人が感謝祭をお祝いしなければいけないのでしょうか
もともと感謝際は、ヨーロッパから新天地のアメリカにやってきたピルグリムの人たちが、先住民のインディアンたちからサヴァイヴァルの仕方を教わったお返しの感謝のお祭りだったはず。ある黒人運動家の人は、「感謝祭を祝うのはインディアン大量虐殺を祝うようなもの。」と発言しています。さらに、「ヨーロッパの野蛮人の子孫たちが黒人たちを奴隷にして、アメリカに住んでいたインディアンたちを皆殺しにし、ご馳走を用意してこの人種差別の激しい帝国主義の国に住む機会を与えられたことを神に感謝する……..そんな行事にアメリカの黒人たちは迎合しなければいけないのだろうか…..。黒人が感謝祭を祝うのはまるでアメリカ人が真珠湾攻撃を祝うようなもの、はたまたユダヤ人がナチの第三帝国を賛美するようなもの…….。」と疑問を投げかけています。真実はいかに………。この機会に一度考えてみてはいかがでしょう。
