ニューヨークの黒人たちに親しまれているFM局、「キス・エフエム」が開局30年を迎え、ハーレムで記念イベントを開催。
8 月11日、125丁目にあるアダム・クレィトン・パウェル州立オフィスの野外ステージにDJブースをもうけ、夕方5時30分よりソウル、R＆B、オールド スクール・ヒップホップのヒット曲を巨大スピーカーで流し、地元民たちを巻き込んでのキス30周年大パーティーとなりました。看板パーソナリティーのシー ラ、ケン・ウェブ、クリス、ウェルチ、レニー・グリーンなどが駆けつけ次々にお祝いのスピーチ。開局以来30年間ずっと活躍している現役のパーソナリ ティー、ボブ・スレイドももちろん駆けつけてくれました。
ミッ クス番組を担当しているDJチャック・チルアウト、DJレッド・アラート、元「Yo! MTV Raps」の司会者、エド・ラヴァー、ヒップホップ番組を制作しているVJのラルフ・マクダニエル等、ヒップホップを代表するセレブ（？）たちも登場。昔 の仲間、Whodini が80年代のスマッシュ曲, “Freaks Come Out At Night” や“Friends” をパフォーマンス。

フックはオーディエンスにお任せ、リリックを全部暗記しているハーレムの住民とフーディーニの呼吸はぴったり、オールド・スクール・ラップがしっかりコミュニティーに定着していることを実感！
R＆B クラシックやスィート・ソウルなどの古い曲が聴けるステーションとして知られているせいか、リスナー層の年齢はかなり高く、“Outstanding”, “Rock With You”, “Just A Friend”, “All Night Long” などの懐かしいヒット曲にオトナたちが大合唱、ブラック・パワーみなぎる大イベントとなりました。
30th Anniversary – 98.7 KISS FM
“Ain’t no party like a KISS FM party, cause a KISS FM party don’t stop,”was truly a reflection of Thursday’s 30th Anniversary Reunion party! KISS took over Adam Clayton Powell State Office Building plaza to celebrate not just a radio station, but a culture.
The music echoing up and down 125th Street in Harlem reflected every era of KISS and the audience loved every minute of it. Arms waving and people two-stepping as far as the eye could see. You could see the smiles on everyone’s faces as the DJ began to play “Gotta Get You Home Tonight” and relive classic KISS moments.
The crowd roared when Shaila took to the stage to introduce the line-up of past and present jocks. Ken “Spider” Web, Lynda Moore, Jacque Reid, Whodini, Full Force, Bobby Gailes and many more joined KISS in the celebration and made the day a momentous occasion. DJ Tommie Allen, DJ Chuck Chillout, DJ Enuff, and DJ Qua delivered crowd-moving master mixes as only they can do, bringing us all back to the best times of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. They reminisced by shouting out old clubs they used to DJ at while the crowd surely had flashback moments. It’s not a KISS party without line dances such as the electric or cha-cha slide, which everyone participated in.
The reunion was packed with entertainment, from the miniature Michael Jackson performer, roller skaters, to the dancers. The feeling in the air, reflection on 30 years of KISS FM, memories and moments from last night, make us want to celebrate 30 more!
