With the recent release of her seventh album, The Truth, Ledisi is currently hitting the road on her 30-city-tour. She was scheduled to perform at the Beacon Theatre in New York on Wednesday evening. Harlem2nippon’s adviser, Ken Simmons got a pair of comp tickets through his WBLS connection and we went to see her show. It was chilly and raining hard that night but I knew it would be worth it, and I was right.

From the moment she strutted onto the stage to perform the single “That Good Good” off her new album “The Truth” Ledisi showcased an undeniable confidence and vibrancy that lit up the Beacon for the entire evening. Backed by her two dancers, she triumphantly showed off her moves on stage, even energetically head banging to the music at one point.

She performed “Bravo” and the feverish disco-esque “Rock With You” while dancing hip hop style. The singer Ledisi sang “Higher Than This,” “Going Thru Changes,” “Stay Together,” “In The Morning,” “Alright” and “Anything.”

The beautiful thing about a live Ledisi show is she presents fans with a live rendition of many of the songs on her albums. She even knows how to scat like you wouldn’t believe! Old-school scat, new-school scat, old-school  mixed with new-school scat – Ledisi enjoyed every moment of what she gave us.

At meet-and-greet before the show, Ledisi told us “I’m so excited about this tour because I have so many surprises for my fans. The whole show has been created to reflect the Truth about me. I feel like I’ve come ful circle. I can’t wait to sing, dance and share my joy with my audience.” She personally gave harlem2nippon readers a special message, “I went to Japan many times and I love Japan! Arigatou.”

For her biggest hit “Pieces Of Me” Ledisi came off the stage and into the crowd trying to reach for everybody in the audience and thanking them. She wrapped up the show with her latest hit “I Blame You” leaving us sweet memory.
