WNYC’s Ultimate Battle of the Boroughs champion, Brown Rice Family celebrated their new single, “Latin Goes To Ska” at “Bowery Electric“ in NYC on April 1.
With members hailing from all over the world – Japan, Jamaica, Haiti, Nigeria, South Africa and USA – Brown Rice Family has a diverse cultural background. BRF provides the masses with a distinctively organic world roots music, reggae, hip-hop, Afrobeat, jazz, Brazilian, Latin and funk. Their goal is to see all people unite in one love and live a healthy life.
The band started with 2 initial members Joe Jang and Yuichi Iida and other members got on board via a natural vibration. The group name BRF is serving as a symbol …..the nutritional values and health benefits that come with the consumption of brown rice. Yuichi started making handmade organic soap named “Brown Rice Family Soap” out of rice bran following an ancient Japanese recipe.
“Latin Goes To Ska” originally recorded by a Jamaican ska band, The Skatalites on Studio One Label in 1964. BRF created their own lyrics over the creators of ska’s music and rejuvenated 50-year-old song. This “family” creates world rhythm driven music and dance that is nutritious for every age, gender, ethnicity, nationality, group, and occasion.
